Simons YYC

Last week the city of Calgary welcomed the retail giant La Maison Simons to the downtown CORE. The store is located in the Lancaster building, which is historic in its own right. As the first skyscraper in the city, it was imperative to fill its halls with an organization equally as notable.

Local architecture & interior design firm, McKinley Burkart, focused on highlighting the roots of the heritage building by incorporating its architecture while adding innovative and modern pieces. The CORE team says “We are so excited to welcome La Maison Simons to our CORE family. McKinley Burkart, Govan Brown and their whole team did a great job presenting the Québec-based brand to YYC in a new and exciting way. The store is filled with exceptionally crafted pieces that bring the space to life. The three-storey mural by local artist Maya Gohill, custom ceiling work by Midwest Group, and so many other unique qualities will bring people out of their homes and into ours.”

Our scope of work in this monumental project involved framing 150,000 linear feet of CFS, in addition to 300,000 square feet of drywall to enclose the space. Custom lightweight steel studs were a key asset in the project and enabled the team to work quicker and more efficiently.

Kind words were spoken regarding Jeff Williams, the Project Manager on site, and his team for the exceptional work put forth for the duration of the development. Ian Campbell, Health & Safety Manager at Govan Brown, says “I am pleased to have worked with a group of trade workers that took the time to ensure safety was a top level of concern while on the job. Jeff Williams should be proud of his team and all workers that completed this project with “0” lost time incidents.”
